REDUCED VISA LIMITS FOR MEXICANS
Work Visa Affected
The State Department recently changed its policy with regard to the issuance of the aforementioned visas to conform to the reciprocity agreement the U.S. has with Mexico. The visas collectively known as “work visas” will now be issued for one year to Mexicans in accordance with the reciprocity agreement between the two countries.
Renewals and Extensions
For years Mexico has issued employment visas for a period of one year to U.S. citizens while the U.S issued such visas for three to five years. The policy change applies to applications filed on or after February 22, 2010 for both Mexicans seeking these visas for the first time as well as to those seeking visa renewals. Extensions may be requested from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services by filing an application, however; Mexicans opting to apply for an extension will be subject to a review of documents upon their re-entry to the United States after traveling to Mexico.
